Course information

In the EU[EM1] [LN2] , buildings account for around 40% of energy consumption, and more than one-third of emissions. This is mainly due to more than 35% of the continent’s building stock being at least 50 years old, and much of that built before 1945 being largely uninsulated.

However, around the world, energy-efficient renovation is rare. In Europe, where the target is to become climate-neutral by 2050, only 1% of buildings undergo such retrofitting each year.

Effective action is vital to reduce energy consumption, and housing has a crucial role to play. In the UK alone, there are 29 million existing homes that need to become low-carbon and resilient to climate change, according to the country’s Committee on Climate Change (CCC).

This webinar will explore how to address ambitious net zero targets across Europe and tackle significant factors, such as adapting to a range of different climates and construction techniques.

Speaking on this webinar is Professor John Edwards, who is the Director of Edwards Hart Consultants. John is an all-round Chartered construction and property professional, Chartered Environmentalist and part time educator specialising in some distinctive areas: climate change and retrofit; property and construction related research and business planning; and building conservation.

Does this webinar cover the UK  or is it just EU countries? [EM1]

I think it would make sense to not include it and focus on other parts of mainland Europe [LN2]
