Another successful edition of our Rural Conference is largely down to our fantastic attendees, sponsor, and speakers present on the day. 100+ attendees meant the conference was a vibrant and friendly place to explore excellent networking opportunities. It was a pleasure to meet and greet everyone and we appreciate the support of RICS members on the day as well as the lead up to the conference.

Overview of 2024 Event

Our conference was built around the most important and pressing challenges facing the UK’s rural sector. Offering innovative solutions, exciting discussion and technical updates throughout the day to help attendees build their knowledge. We had 9 sessions throughout our full day and below is just an example of some those:

  • Carbon markets: Expert insight into the mechanisms of carbon markets, exploring their relevance and impact upon the rural economic landscape.  
  • Essential policy updates: Our opening session will see us dissect key points within the Rock Review and Farm Tenancy Forum before exploring some of the financial support mechanisms open to our rural delegates.
  • Water performance update: This session will explore the progress and activities made by water companies in recent years and, importantly, shed light on where more work is needed.
  • Rural planning and housing: This panel discussion will bring together industry leaders to share knowledge and strategies on the best way to create sustainable housing plans in rural areas.

  • Updates throughout the conference help to shed light on the latest and most essential updates from government, DEFRA and other relevant departments. Exploring the important points within key elements of policy and regulation that are impacting those working in rural areas. Sessions will cover legislation such as: The Rock Review, Levelling Up and Regeneration Act 2023 and other agricultural policies
  • Hear expert opinion and technical information on the various uses of geospatial data within land management. Learning how experts in the field have been able to utilise its benefits and improve strategies
  • The push for more environmentally friendly practices in the rural sector is continuing to grow, to keep on top of the regulations and legislation without legal assistance can be almost impossible. Presentations from legal experts will explore targets and strategies for boosting biodiversity, improving energy efficiency and covering government policy and initiatives in the area
  • The performance of the UK’s water companies has been under significant scrutiny this past year and rural England is particularly susceptible to this performance. Delegates at the conference will greatly benefit hearing what is being done to improve performance, including some information on how regulators are tracking and pushing for better performance
  • With increasing demand for housing in rural areas and prices increasing a panel discussion involving a variety of key stakeholders in the topic will provide our audience with a holistic understanding of the challenges we are facing. Local Authorities, House Builders, and infrastructure providers, to name a few, are all tackling their own unique challenges. An open and fair discussion between them can help to find solutions and improve the profession of housing in rural areas
