    Course information

    This course is aimed at anyone studying for RICS professional membership across all routes and pathways. By becoming a member of the RICS you will, in addition to demonstrating your professional knowledge and skills, have to show your understanding of and commitment to RICS’ Rules of Conduct.

     

    This e-learning course has been split into four modules covering the following topics:

    Module 1: Introduction to ethics and professionalism

    • What is ethics?
    • Different approaches to ethics
    • Clients’ interests and the public interest
    • The professionalism of RICS qualified professionals

     

    Module 2 – The RICS Rules of Conduct, integrity and professional codes of ethics

    • The RICS ‘Rules of Conduct’
    • What is integrity?
    • Arguments for and against professional codes
    • Ethical justifications for professional codes

     

    Module 3 – Ethical topics and considerations

    • Impartiality, objectivity, and conflicts of interest
    • Multi-Cultural ethics
    • Openness, honesty, and confidentiality
    • Trust and trustworthiness
    • Speaking up, whistleblowing and reporting

     

    Module 4 – Choose your own adventure

    • In this case study you are an RICS qualified professional who has to make a series of difficult choices.  You will be asked to read a scenario and then to make a choice about what to do based on the information in that scenario.

    In addition to the course content outlined, if you are applying to join the RICS or you are an RICS assessor, the course includes a further case study and a multiple choice question test, which you must successfully complete to pass the course.
