Roger Southam is a Fellow of the Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors (RICS), a Fellow of Institute of Residential Property Management (IRPM) and a Fellow of Association of Residential Letting Agents (ARLA). He is a member of Investment Property Forum and Urban Land Institute. He is a regular panellist for industry focused groups including RICS, British Property Federation, Bank of England, HM Revenue & Customs, and the Department of Communities and Local Government.
He is non-executive Chairman of the Leasehold Advisory Service from 1st January 2015 for a five year term.
Having a reputation as a trouble-shooter, Roger has assisted with more than £250million worth of property asset transactions boasting increased capital value gains of up to 23.5% and increased rental income of up to 12% through his proactive management approach. Chainbow has provided block management services to residential assets valued at over £2.1bn.
Roger has more than 30 years’ experience in the property industry. He founded Chainbow in 1989 as a property investment company, specialising in shopping centre and mixed-use asset management throughout the UK and Europe. In 2006, it moved into residential block management.
Chainbow has adapted its commercial property approach to improve residential investment as an asset class. Specialising in the Private Rented Sector (PRS), Chainbow is able to assist clients through acquisitions, redevelopments, on-going management, trouble-shooting and disposals. This includes management and maintenance of an estate at large and the individual apartments within. Having established and sold off block management contracts of more than 5,000 homes, Chainbow is now specialising in high- end strategic UK sites. It currently managers more than 1,000 homes and consults to dozens of property firms regarding dispute resolution, improving a portfolio’s value and trouble-shooting challenging developments or investment opportunities. In short, Chainbow is developing as a new breed of British asset and property manager.
Roger sits on the HM Revenue & Customs Administrative Burdens Board, London Chamber of Commerce Property & Construction Committee, BPF Residential Management Committee. He is a committee member of Candlewick Ward Club, City Livery Club Golf Society, and a member of Committee Club, Hermes Club, 1913 Wilderness Club, Chartered Surveyors Golf Society. He is Past Master of the Worshipful Company of Chartered Surveyors Livery Company and Liveryman of the Worshipful Company of Constructors.
Roger is also the former Chairman of the CSTT, the industry charity that supports young, disadvantaged people into surveying careers.
