As sales of electric vehicles grow there is increasing demand for charging points and the infrastructure to house them. In June 2022, Part S Building Regulation came into effect to accommodate the infrastructure required for charging vehicles at new and existing homes and non-residential buildings. It requires all new buildings with parking facilities as well as those undergoing major renovation to install EV charging points.
With the potential for increased uptake of electric vehicles and charging points infrastructure associated fire safety risks need to be taken into account. The ‘interim guidance’ was published in June 2023, listing key considerations when installing charging points in covered car parks.
