Course information

2023 proved a demanding year for the valuation sector under additional strain from the continuing energy cost crisis, supply chain issues, rising interest rates and lurking economic challenges. It now becomes important to take stock of the challenges faced and find solutions and answers to the biggest questions facing the valuation sector:

  • How can the UK national supplement reflect changes in the market and present opportunity to implement relevant recommendations?
  • How can we accurately calculate VAT under challenging circumstances?
  • How will Basel 3 impact Commercial & Residential Valuation?
  • What needs to be known about general disclosures and what is the responsibility of the valuer?
  • How do online auctions continue to challenge the valuation market?
  • What are the RICS Standards and Updates that the valuation sector needs to be aware of?

For 2024, we will be answering these questions alongside specific breakouts for an in-depth understanding of the various valuation specialisms. To ensure our members continue to feel supported, we have built a programme to cover 6 breakouts all complimented by our plenary sessions for a more holistic view of the industry.

We will be covering:

  • Commercial Property: Hear about the ongoing challenges within the commercial property sector including retrofitting spaces, e-commerce and valuing secondary stranded assets. We will also cover key need to know about UK VPS 3.
  • Residential Property: We will cover a variety of topics pertaining to the residential property sector including managing changing house prices, valuing in times of financial uncertainty and take a closer look at understanding bias and conflict in residential property valuations.
  • Operational Real Estate (ORE): As ORE grows as a sector, it becomes more important to be aware of the key challenges around sales purchases and the complexities of owning and managing ORE. We will cover a market overview, latest trends and a look at why more people are being drawn to the ORE pathway.
  • Personal Property and Arts & Antiques (PPAA): Join us for an update on the Global Art Market for 2024 and what to be aware of around valuation challenges in a post covid world and updates on trading practises. We will also look into what the future might hold for PPAA valuations.
  • Business Valuations and Intangible Assets: Hear the newest insights into valuation concerns in the business valuations and intangible assets sector, as well as how to understand mandatory performance frameworks in business valuation and growth shares.
  • Machinery & Business Assets (MBA): VAT has proved a challenging factor in the MBA sector throughout 2023, so join us for an update on VAT For auction sales. We will also look into the growth of e-commerce, understanding insurance and an update on the future of Machinery and Business Assets from RICS.

With these specialised breakouts and comprehensive plenary discussions this event will provide you with the knowledge necessary to tackle the complexities and uncertainties of the valuation landscape as we go into 2024.
