Simone West

Principle Access Consultant at Atkins

My Bio

Simone is a Chartered Building Surveyor with 25 years experience within the building industry. She is Principle Access Consultant at Atkins having specialised in inclusive design for the past 16 years. Simone sits on the board of the National Register of Access Consultants (NRAC).

Simone has had the opportunity to work on some very exciting projects, large and small, learning and developing greater understanding of what inclusive design means. Perhaps the most noteworthy of projects was her work as Principle Access Consultant for LOCOG (London Organising Committee for the Olympic and Paralympic Games) working to ensure that the temporary overlay was accessible for all during the London 2012 Games. Current projects include the Science Museum, seven Yorkshire schools, Gatwick, Crossrail and a student campus. She has combined this with completing her Msc on Inclusive Design, at Reading, talking at International conferences and providing lectures and training events.

Simone represents the RICS on the Government group developing inclusive design in the education of property professionals and is involved in the development of best practice standards across the industry, including development of a new British Standard for inclusive design within the external environment.
